Attention Year 13s:
The University of Auckland have announced some slight changes to their entry requirements for 2021, to allow for impacts of COVID-19 on Y13 students’ school results this year. See below.
Further to our earlier communication, we include below additional information on the University of Auckland 2021 Entry Requirements for School Leavers.
Kia ora koutou,
The University of Auckland (University) appreciates the considerable impact that COVID-19 has had on New Zealand secondary school students, especially those in their final year who are making plans to attend university in 2021.
The NZQA has announced an adjustment to the requirements to meet the UE standard for those completing in 2020, in order to take into account, the disruption to studies.
Further to NZQA’s announcement, the University will be putting in measures to support students entering university in 2021. Our offering centres on “Pae tawhiti – student success”. It’s about guided pathways for students – aiming to provide a university pathway for everyone.
To support this, the University will place a stronger emphasis on Year 12 results than in the past. The guaranteed entry score (rank score) that we have used previously will not be required to guarantee a student’s place in a programme.
The 2021 guided pathway entry requirements are summarised below:
|For entry in 2021|
|Early Programme Offers||Strong Year 12 results (across completed NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 subjects, or equivalent Cambridge International or IB results) + UE, once achieved.|
|Early Conditional Offers||Year 12 results + UE, once achieved + specific Year 13 requirements (across completed NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 subjects, or equivalent Cambridge International or IB results) where required.
Other requirements may apply which will be specified in the offer letter
|Table A and B requirements||Removed (suspended for NCEA and Cambridge International) for the 2021 academic year.
A more permanent decision on A & B tables is under consideration.
|Discretionary Entrance||If UE is not achieved, in certain circumstances, Year 13 students can be considered under Discretionary Entrance for Semester One 2021.|
|Support for catch-up credits on campus over Summer for those who have not achieved UE.
The key message for students is – apply early and receive an offer. Offers will provide a clear statement of what students need to achieve this year to secure entry to the University. We also have Academic Advisors on hand to discuss options with students and to plan ahead. Students can book an appointment directly for a discussion with an Academic Advisor: https://timetrade.blogs.auckland.ac.nz/
Alternatively, they can also contact our Student Contact Centre on 0800 61 62 63 or via email email@example.com to discuss options or make an appointment.
Students are encouraged to continue to make a full commitment to their Year 13 studies for the remainder of their year so that they are well placed for success at the University of Auckland.
We look forward to welcoming them.
Ko au, ko au. Ko koe, ko koe. Me haere ngātahi tāua.
I am me, you are you, but we can go on together as one.
